The Fortress of Nis is a fortress city in the center of Nis on the right bank of Nišava, which has a continuity of about two millennia of constant existence as witnessed by many archaeological findings. Todays fortress is a type of artillery fortress and was raised by the Ottomans in the period from 1719th till 1723rd in the area of ancient and medieval fortifications. According to its present state, it is among the best preserved fortifications of this kind in Serbia and the Balkan peninsula.

Today there are numerous events, festivals and concerts held in the Fortress of Niš. Among the most famous and most attractive events is the international jazz festival "Nisville"
